Shooting at Howe Park Leaves Four People Injured in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Sacramento authorities are probing a shooting incident that broke out on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispersing a large unauthorized gathering of several hundred people.

Prior to the Shooting

Deputies were first called to the Arden-Arcade park at about 6:30 in the evening after obtaining information of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Soon after, another report was received describing a possible fight occurring at Howe Park.

Air support flew over the park but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Despite this, deputies found that an enormous crowd had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Deputies moved to clear the area by positioning themselves around the crowd and broadcasting over loudspeakers telling those gathered to disperse at once. About 15 minutes were allowed for individuals to vacate.

At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were fired. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede. Responding personnel quickly moved to searching for victims.

The Shooting Victims

In total, four victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. The victims — made up of one woman and three men each reported to be in their mid to late twenties — were transported to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Hospital staff stated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one had moderate injuries, and one person's injuries were considered minor. As of last report, all four were in stable condition.

Sacramento Metro Fire arrived here on scene and helped triage the injured before they were taken to the hospital.

What Investigators Found

Most of the gunfire was determined to have been concentrated near the Cottage Way side of the park next to the local Home Depot located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Investigators located extra shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Ballistic damage were also found in the wrought iron perimeter fencing near the Home Depot. These discoveries confirmed that at least one of the shooters had been aiming south from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. The Home Depot was locked down while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel kept processing evidence late into the evening.

Suspects Detained

Details gathered over scanner radio traffic confirmed that a Kia vehicle was pulled over in Solano County California. Four people were stopped and detained. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Solano County to collect the individuals for questioning. Video evidence established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
